Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is one of the safe, alternative therapies the BART Foundation believes may help brain injury survivors.

As supporters and followers of our group may know, our advisory board has been working with TreatNOW.org and other groups to get a bill passed in NYS to fund HBOT for veterans with TBI/PTSD.  There are roughly 35,716 veterans in NY who would qualify! The bill is NYS A1869/S1715, “which establishes a hyperbaric oxygen therapy pilot program to treat veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder.”

There is a good chance the bill will be passed and funded this coming session, but in the meantime, veterans and non-veterans with TBI/ABI/PTSD continue to struggle to find medical professionals aware of HBOT’s benefits.

BART Phillies HBOT

This is why we believe it’s important to share recent announcements, such as those made by the Major League Baseball team, the Philadelphia Phillies, that the team is relying on HBOT to heal serious injuries, including brain injuries. This announcement follows other Pennsylvania professional teams, including the National Hockey League’s Philadelphia Flyers and the National Football League’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

Professional sports teams have the knowledge and resources to provide the best-in-class care for their players who sustain brain injuries. It would be wonderful if the same care were available to our veterans and all who have been impacted by TBI/ABI.
