The BART Foundation aims to promote better outcomes for brain injury survivors by answering three questions: Which alternative therapies are likely to work, where can they be found, and how can they be afforded? One way we fulfill our mission is by carefully monitoring global research and clinical trial outcomes and sharing that information in user-friendly language with the TBI/ABI community.
While the broad category of computer games is not an alternative therapy we officially support, we wanted to share information about games specifically designed to help the brain rewire after injury. The following two research articles show gains in cognition (attention, speed, memory, decision-making), in quality of life (depressive symptoms, confidence and control, health-related quality of life), and in real-world activities (health outcomes, balance, driving, workplace activities) as a result of regularly using exercises found on BrainHQ.
A shorter article summarizes the results, and the longer one is the original study, published in the Journal of Neurotrauma.
This is good news, since playing computer games can be done anywhere, and the activities on BrainHQ appear to help chronic brain injury survivors years post-injury. Please note the BART Foundation is not affiliated with Posit Science or the BrainHQ website. Access to the games does require a monthly or yearly subscription with a 30-day money back guarantee.
If you subscribe to BrainHQ, we’d love to hear from you about your experiences and outcomes.
